New England's fall foliage is beautiful, whether cloudy or sunny outside! Enjoy the fall colors in the Litchfield Hills this weekend while riding the Naugatuck Railroad's Autumn Colors Limited! Passengers aboard the train will enjoy a leisurely 1 hour and 30-minute ride along the southern portion of the Naugatuck Railroad. The line closely follows the Naugatuck River, crossing it in several areas while providing beautiful scenery. The train will also make a 20-minute stop at Fascia's Chocolates in Waterbury, allowing passengers to visit the factory and shop. The rides begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Friday. It's a weekend of fun, rides, food, and games at the 14th Annual Cove Side Carnival! The event, which takes place at Wethersfield Cove Park, is right in the heart of one of the largest historic districts in the state, which was also the location of the inspired "Witch of Blackbird Pond." There are high-energy thrill rides, rides for children, and other kinds of entertainment the whole family can enjoy! Admission and parking is free. Beginning this Friday and running to Oct. 19 will be the Cursed Orchard Haunted Hayride in East Haddam! One by one, farm workers have turned into something monstrous and surreal and have been snatching up livestock and visitors alike! Embark on a hayride journey across the cursed farmland acreage and seek out souls that can still be saved. The hayride is an interactive horror hayride that begins at the Yankee Cider Barn orchard and takes around 30 minutes, or one mile, to complete. Calling all writers! The Warner Theatre in Torrington will present its 12th Annual International Playwrights Festival. The event will take place Friday and Saturday at the Nancy Marine Studio and will recognize the work of emerging and established playwrights. The event's goal is to build a link between the playwriters and the theatre community. It's a two-night celebration of new works from across the country and worldwide! It's that time of year again to lace up your shoes and hit the streets of Hartford! The Hartford Marathon, Half-Marathon, Team 26.2 Relay, and Charity 5K will occur this Saturday. The race courses for runners will take them through Elizabeth Park, over the Founders Bridge, the East Hartford side of the river, scenic South Windsor Roads, and all journey back to Hartford, finishing in Bushnell Park. Chowder, bluegrass music, and family-friendly activities will delight at RiverFest at Devil's Hopyard State Park this weekend! The event will feature music by the Hosmer Mountain Boys, chowder, chili, and cider by the Moodus Sportsmen's Club, a history walk, and other events. Run and walk to the Pumpkin Run in Harwinton - 5K Run/Walk and Field Day/Fall Festival this Saturday! The event will begin promptly at 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. the same day. The run is 3.1 miles throughout beautiful Harwinton, and the walk is a 2-mile route. There will also be a kid's dash at Town Hall! After the race, the Field Day and Fall Festival will kick off with games, events, vendors, food trucks, live music, and so much more! Learn more about this event here.
The fall festival season continues with the Shoreline Fall Festival & Expo this Saturday! Live music will feature local bands, and a wide selection of food and drink will be available including Bake Bake Hooray, Thimble Island Brewery, and more. Also, stop by the Artisan Barn for items from artists and crafters such as Grey Goat Famtique, Earth Art, Kissed by a Mermaid, and more! There will also be free children's activities, including donkey rides, a petting zoo, and touch-a-truck! Parking is free, and the event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Learn more here.
And finally, head to Wilton this Saturday for the 3rd Annual Great Wilton Pumpkin Festival from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.! It's a great way to celebrate the fall season with pumpkin bowling, pumpkin tic-tac-toe, and historical reenactments. Visitors can also pick up their very own pumpkin to bring home! New this year is a scavenger hunt for hidden items and images scattered across the grounds. Tickets are $5 for people who are non-members of the Wilton Historical Society.
