PRESTON, Conn. — The colors are coming out in Preston, by the thousands – most of them are ready to be picked. It’s the third season for the Wicked Tulip Farm, a family enterprise that offers visitors a chance to get their hands dirty and pick a variety of decorative and bright flowers to take home.
Jeroen and Keriann Koeman, the owners of Wicked Tulip Farm have expanded it to seven acres this year – boasting somewhere in the neighborhood of 750,000 Tulips.
"You come out, your blood pressure goes down you breathe, and your vibration comes up – it’s just joy and gratitude," Keriann said.
The Koeman’s have two other tulip farms – both in Rhode Island that will soon open for the season which only lasts about two or three weeks. Jeroen, a native of Holland, brought the experience of his homeland to the US.
“I grew up on a Tulip farm,” he said, “we are very grateful that we have the opportunity to give this experience to the people.”
As Earth Day approaches, both Koemans think there is a message directly linked to observing the day.
“I think there’s a big message around Earth Day and that’s also what we are proud to spread; that Mother Nature is freakin’ amazing!"Keriann added. “Just come and sit and enjoy the beauty," Jeroen said.
The Wicked Tulip Farm officially opens to the public on April 21, 2023. Visitors must reserve their tickets in advance, tickets are sold by time slots. Tickets range from $18 to $24 dollars depending on the date and time of day. Kids' tickets are $5.49. To learn more, click here.
