HARTFORD, Conn. — For the seventh time, Hartford Whalers Alumni Weekend returns to Dunkin' Park in downtown Hartford, and for fans, the weekend is a win-win.
The Hartford Yard Goats continue to support the Whalers and, this year, the baseball team has brought back 19 former Whaler hockey players for events on Friday and Saturday night.
Jeff Dooley, the lead broadcaster of the Yard Goats said, “They’re gone but not forgotten,” and added, “Everyone knows about Yard Goats Baseball now, but it’s important that we all know about the Hartford Whalers, who were around for many, many years.”
Before the pageantry of being with fans at Dunkin Park, about 10 former Whalers had a meet and greet with patients and healthcare workers at Saint Francis Hospital.
While signing autographs in the hospital lobby, former Whaler forward Scott Daniels, who spent three seasons in Hartford said, “The Hartford community is so close knit with their sports, you know be it the Yard Goats or the be it the Whalers, you could leave town, and those feelings come back, and the fans still appreciate you.”
Whalers forward Yvon “Ike” Corriveau, who still lives in Central Connecticut added, “There are still a lot of Whaler fans around and coming back is great; seeing all the guys is a lot of fun.”
This year, Whalers Alumni Weekend is July 27th and July 28th at Dunkin' Park in Hartford.
