NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The “Turkey Tonic” is back for a third year in a row at Avery’s Soda.
The seasonal flavor – a cranberry-orange-ginger flavored soda – has proven itself to be a popular drink of choice ever since Jason Jakubowski, the president and CEO of the Connecticut Foodshare, approached Avery’s Soda with the idea several years ago.
“We were talking about this and said hey, why don’t we do a soda for Thanksgiving and then one thing led to another, and Turkey Tonic was born,” he said.
A new flavor for a good cause.
For every bottle sold, Avery’s Soda owner Rob Metz donates 50 centers to help the Connecticut Foodshare.
“It’s all good things, it’s all for a good cause,” he said. “We’re raising some money for Foodshare, we’re making some seasonal soda.”
Rolling off Avery’s new production line in New Britain, bottle after bottle of Turkey Tonic was being capped and then boxed up for sale in the weeks ahead.
“We start getting requests for it in early October, people say ‘When are you going to do the Turkey Tonic?’,” Metz said.
“Turkey Tonic” is offered in both soda and seltzer varieties.
“It’s a way to be able to go out there in the community and show people we are supporting this effort, this is something we are doing to help people have a great Thanksgiving,” Jakubowski said.
Turkey Tonic costs $1.50 per bottle and is for sale through Thanksgiving at Avery’s Soda in New Britain at 520 Corbin Avenue.
“Come grab a case of cold ones!” Metz said with a laugh.
