CANTON, Conn — A dog that appeared to be abandoned is recovering after being hit by a car earlier this week in Canton. Now, the local animal control is looking for the owners.
The 1-year-old male terrier mix was found in the woods near the intersection of Route 44 and Sterling Drive, the Burlington and Canton Animal Control said on social media Wednesday afternoon.
The terrier mix was hit by a car while crossing Route 44 and appeared to have an eye injury, officials said. Animal Control did not elaborate on any other injuries or ailments from which the dog may be recovering.
Animal Control believes the dog escaped from the crate he was left in, which had some food in it. The dog had no way to identify himself since he didn't have a collar or tags, and he was also not microchipped.
The dog is currently being treated at the local emergency vet center.
This terrier mix is not available for adoption at this time.
Anyone with information about this dog can call Animal Control Officer Meskun at (860)960-6600 or Canton police at (860)693-0221.
