MANCHESTER, Conn. — It’s Groundhog Day! While America’s groundhog Punxsutawney Phil made his annual weather prediction, he’s not the only animal giving insights on whether there’ll be six more weeks of winter or early spring.
In Connecticut, three other animals were weighing in.
Chuckles the groundhog at the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester gave his prediction on Friday – and like Punxsutawney Phil – Connecticut’s groundhog predicted an early spring!
“That was the hot vote,” said Mackenzie Watkins, the museum director. “I think everyone is pretty excited about that.”
A lot of children and families were invited to the museum on Friday morning to see Chuckles.
“It’s a special event. It brings the community together,” Watkins said.
Over the last few years, Chuckles has only seen his showdown once – predicting early spring since 2019. The only extended winter was in 2022.
Meanwhile, at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, it was a prairie dog checking his shadow.
Beardsley Bart had a small gathering with other friends Friday morning and he proclaimed (through Mayor Joe Ganim) that “spring is coming to Bridgeport!”
Not be left behind, Scramble the Duck in Eastford also predicted early spring!
So, there you have it! Spring is coming early!
