East Haddam Animal Control search for person who dropped off emaciated dog at park: Exclusive

A ranger at Hurd State Park in East Hampton rescued the 20-pound dog Friday afternoon.

EAST HAMPTON, Conn. — East Haddam Animal Control asked for the public's help after a dog was found abandoned Friday afternoon at Hurd State Park in East Hampton.

The female dog which appeared to be a mixed breed was found by a ranger at the park around 3:30 in the afternoon.

She was all skin and bones and only weighed 20 pounds.

Her age is unknown at this time since she is in such poor condition.

East Haddam Animal Control brought her to Piper-Olson Veterinary Hospital where the dog is receiving top care.

Officers now are investigating who dropped off the dog at the park.

"The moment I walked up to her, I started to cry. It's a hard case to walk upon. We have some great towns that we cover, we have some great residents and we never have to actually deal with a situation like this very often. We're very thankful for the residents we have and the support we have from the community," said Ofc. Jessica Andrew of East Haddam Animal Control.

"She's very scared and whatever happened to her shouldn't have happened and we need to find out more information about her.," said Ofc. Allison Leue of East Haddam Animal Control.

Officers added this dog is very lucky to be alive. She will be placed in foster care until she is healthy enough to be adopted.

Animal Control started a GoFundMe page for anyone who wishes to speed up this dog's recovery process. Click here if you would like to help.

The animal advocacy group, Desmond's Army, posted on Facebook that they are offering a $3,000 reward for anyone with information regarding the person responsible for leaving the dog behind.
