Dog found tethered to tree in woods, now South Windsor police are trying to figure out who did it

The light blue and gray collar on the dog had the name "Kobe" written on it, police said.

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — Police are seeking information on who left a dog tied to a tree in a wooded area of South Windsor, according to the Tyler Rrgional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS).

Police were called to the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary around 11 a.m. Monday for a report of a barking dog. Someone found the dog while walking in the area; its collar was strapped to the dog and a tree branch, TRACS said.

The dog's light blue and gray collar had the name "Kobe" written on it, officials said. The collar could also be read as "Kade."

Officers investigated the area but there are no home surveillance cameras in the area where the dog was left, TRACS said.

Now, the shelter is asking the public to share any information they may have on the dog.

"Maybe your neighbor had a dog matching this description that is no longer there, or you heard someone talking about leaving this sweet boy," TRACS said in a social media post, asking users for help.

Anyone with information about this dog and how it ended up tied to a tree branch is asked to call South Windsor Police at 860-648-6239.

Desmond's Army, a non profit animal advocate group, said it's offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to answers and the arrest of who tethered the dog to the tree.
