NEWINGTON, Conn. — Two turkeys were spared their lives on Thanksgiving Eve in a pardoning at Stew Leonard's. The turkeys came from a farm in Guilford and are named after music artist Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal met Taylor and Travis at the Newington location of Stew Leonard's to pardon them.

“These lovebirds are going to have such a life ahead of them. They are going to spend wonderful years, down on the farm, arm and arm, or beak to beak, and we wish nothing but good things for Travis and Taylor,” said Blumenthal.

Taylor and Travis have been names on the top of headlines lately, as the two celebrities are dating.

“Thank you to everybody who is working now and through the holidays, all of our first responders firefighters, and everybody who works in stores to cater to folks who at that very last moment, needs some bread or some eggs or sugar or whatever and they're at the store and great retailers of Connecticut are there for them,” said Blumenthal.

President Joe Biden also pardoned two turkeys for Thanksgiving. On Monday, Biden pardoned turkeys Liberty and Bell at the White House, per tradition. It also happened to be the president's 81st birthday.

The tradition dates back to 1947 when the National Turkey Federation first presented a National Thanksgiving Turkey to President Truman. But back then, the gobbler was given to the first family for holiday consumption. It wasn't until the late 1980s that the tradition evolved into a pardoning.
