Connecticut kids hit the streets for Halloween treats

From the downtown streets of New Britain to the Governor’s Mansion in Hartford, there was somewhere for every kid to celebrate.

HARTFORD, Conn. — It’s Halloween, the day when the costumes are on, and the candy is ready in Connecticut.

From the downtown streets of New Britain at their Trick-or-treat Safe Zone, to the Governor’s Mansion in Hartford and even Hartford’s City Hall-o-ween, there was somewhere for every kid to celebrate.

“I look forward to coming and taking my grandkids,” said Nanette McGill.

"It’s a great chance to give kids and families a place to come and do some great trick-or-treating,” said Mayor Luke Bronin.

This Halloween, there were plenty of places to get your favorite treat. Gov. Ned Lamont and the First Lady, or on this night, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, gave out 600 UConn chocolate bars to those who stopped by.

“They are cool, and they are funny,” said Lulu Jacequet, dressed in her best news reporter costume.

It was such a success that all the chocolate was gone by 7:30 p.m.

“It was pretty quiet three years ago, it’s great to see, hear the crowds in the street. You hear everybody cheering and laughing. It’s a good feeling,” said Lamont.

That good feeling is felt in New Britain too as hundreds of families packed out downtown for their annual event.

“It started in 2013. It’s been such a success ever since,” said New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart.

Parents agree, giving their little ones a safe place to parade around and have an enjoyable night.

After all the ghouls and goblins got their sweet treats, Arielle Melendez said the perfect way to end the night was with her family.

“After I get the candy, I get to spend time with my family and watch scary movies,” said Melendez.
