PLAINVILLE, Conn. — Cortlandt Hull, a Hollywood make-up artist and sculptor, began the Witch’s Dungeon Classic Movie Museum as a teenager 57 years ago. Needless to say, his horror film memorabilia collection has grown.
Hull, who is the curator of the Witch’s Dungeon in Plainville, is readying for another Halloween season where he showcases horror movie props from the celluloid era,
"We have exhibits from just about every one of the classic horror films from the 1930s up to the 70’s,” he said.
Hull said he wants to give customers a special feeling when they see some of the movie props and costumes he has on display.
"We try to give you the feeling that you just stepped onto the set of the movie. We have the Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein, we have the Invisible Man, plus we have the Creature from the Black Lagoon, even Vincent Price gave me the original costume from the House of Wax," Hull said.
Always looking to add new horror film keepsakes, Hull said the era of movies he showcases is special because of the care involved in creating them.
“The best part of this time of year is having all the people visit here and really enjoy the set and the detail that we put into the characters," he said.
The Witch’s Dungeon is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tours take about 30 minutes and cost $15. Advanced purchase isn’t available so it’s walk-up only. To learn more about The Witch’s Dungeon Classic Movie Museum click here.
