HARTFORD, Conn. — Meet Obsidian! He is an eight-month-old black Chinchilla that arrived with his dad Salvador at the Connecticut Humane Society.
Chinchillas live on average between 8-10 years, so he’s sure to be someone’s lifelong friend! These little guys require a nice cool and dry environment as they are native inhabitants of the high Andes mountains.
Chinchillas are social creatures that require lots of attention from an owner and/or another chinchilla companion.
Chinchillas require a specialized "dust bath" to maintain their soft coats.
They're nocturnal creatures, which means they'll be more active at night than during the day.
They have very comical personalities and love to play with their chew-proof toys!
