HARTFORD, Conn. — As gas prices continue to rise throughout Connecticut, it’s something that is affecting everyone.
“The gas price is too high,” said one gas buyer.
Gas prices have reached another record high. The national average price for regular gas climbed more than four cents on Tuesday to $4.37 a gallon, according to AAA. That takes out the previous record of $4.33 set in March.
In Connecticut, the highest was at $4.35, pinching many people’s pockets.
“I get eight to ten miles the gallon so pretty affective,” said customer, David Hick.
Hicks is paying $25 more to fill up his tank than he was just a few months ago.
“It’s becoming a bill. Before, you were driving for pleasure. Now, it’s an expense,” said Hicks.

Some experts fear that even higher gas prices are coming.
“We’ve seen crude oil reach almost $110 per barrel and that is the primary factor of what is driving up the price at the pump and as long as that crude oil price remains elevated, we’re going to continue to see those prices rise,” said Tracy Noble, spokesperson for AAA Hartford.
So, what can you do to save at the pump?
- Consolidate your trips
- If you have a membership or club card that gets discounts on gas, use it
- Pay with cash if you can
- Price shop
“The cheapest fuel price might not be in your neighborhood. It might be on your commute or somewhere else on your daily drive. So you really need to be a savvy consumer at this point,” said Noble.
In March of this year gas prices did hit a high of $4.41. However, Governor Lamont also signed legislation suspending gas tax that same month. Tracey from AAA also said this is really helping even if it doesn’t feel like it.
