CONNECTICUT, USA — Companies are hiring in Connecticut as people affected by the pandemic look for work.
Ever-growing Amazon announced it will be hiring another 100,000 people nationwide to keep up with customer demand. The new positions will be part-time and full-time roles and will include packing, shipping and sorting orders. Amazon is also looking to fill about 33,000 corporate and tech roles. The company is also holding a virtual Amazon Career Day Wednesday at noon to help job seekers. With two new Amazon delivery stations set to open in Danbury and Orange in October, there are a number of job openings to apply for.
JC Penney just interviewed a number of applicants to fill 1700 supply chain associates at its Manchester supply chain facility. The jobs are seasonal. There are also some retail jobs at different store locations posted on the company’s website.
Connecticut Department of Labor Commissioner Kurt Westby Monday provided updates on the federal Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program. "Certification for the program is now open to all claimants and the program has been extended for another week for a total of six weeks of benefits. The program gives an additional $300 per week benefit for eligible claimants who were unemployed or partially unemployed due to COVID-19. "
Commissioner Westby said, “We urge claimants to self-certify for Lost Wages Assistance—it will offer much-needed additional assistance to our unemployed workforce. Connecticut was just approved for another week of assistance for a total of six weeks, but this program is only a temporary one—FEMA will end it once available federal funding is exhausted.”
