SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — A longstanding member of the South Windsor business community is closing its doors.

Now Furnishings, an independent retailer known for its variety of modern furniture and unique Scandinavian furniture, was established in 1989. After providing high quality furniture to the region for 35 years, the business will begin its final liquidation on Thursday.

In a release from the retailer, Anthony “Tony” Traister, an original founder, said he plans to retire after the liquidation sale is complete. Traister worked for decades to establish the business as a premiere destination for eclectic home furnishings.

“I am deeply grateful to my incredibly supportive wife, Brigitte, as well as to the loyal staff, customers and manufacturing partners who have provided tremendous support and friendship over the past 35 years,” Traister said. “Our beautiful doodle, Bailey, who has been the store’s official greeter for the last two-and-a-half years, also thanks everyone for their love.”

Now Furnishings is located directly off Route 5 at 41 Glendale Road, and the store-closing sale opens to the public beginning Thursday.

The business said merchandise across the 20,000 square-foot showroom will be priced to move expediently with significant discounts on furniture and accessories. Now Furnishings offers famous name bands such as American Leather, Copeland, Norwalk, Palliser and Stressless. Management recommends customers arrive early for the best selection.
