Built brick by brick at the Pez factory in Orange

While the famous collectible dispensers are all made outside of the country the candy comes from Connecticut.

ORANGE, Connecticut — The building is brick and mortar on the outside and it’s got many more bricks on the inside. For the past 50 years, Pez has been making its iconic candy tablets from the factory floor off Prindle Hill Road in Orange.

The Pez Headquarters is better known of late for its decade-old Visitor Center, but all of the candy making for the United States and Canada is made there too – about 12 million Pez bricks per day.

Shawn Peterson, who is the consumer business manager at Pez said that while the famous collectible dispensers are all made outside of the country the candy comes from Connecticut.

“Anything consumable is made right here in the factory in Orange,” said Peterson. “People are surprised to hear that.” He added, “A hundred thousand pounds of sugar every week that we use so it adds up, it’s about a million rolls of candy each day that they produce.”

Peterson said due to the popularity of Pez, they are running three shifts a day, five days a week.

The company, which is nearly 100 years old, stays successful according to Peterson because “it’s relatable, it has really become generational at this point.”
