SALISBURY, Connecticut — It’s a unique job title, Race Car Instructor. At Lime Rock Park, they currently have a roster of around 24 race instructors who teach people the ins and outs of the winding course.
Stephan Bastryzcki, a lead instructor at Lime Rock has taught people to race for over two decades.
“There are really two types of programs, you can come and learn defensive driving, or you can learn skills that apply to the racetrack or the street,” said Bastrycki.
Steve Huntley, the track program manager at Lime Rock, said the job is interesting.
“It is a very interesting job because sitting in that right seat they can get a little beat up, you never know who you are going to be with,” said Huntley.
Veteran Race instructor and pro driver Dean DiGiacomo said he still likes instructing after 25 years.
"The comradery between drivers and the people that want to become drivers – that’s what keeps me doing what I do,” said DiGiacomo.
“What is the saying if you love your job you will never go work? I think seeing people grow and being able to pass on some of the skills that we use on the racetrack – that’s the most rewarding part of this,” said Bastrzycki.
