SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — It is a family run business that’s focused on a homemade favorite...Mister B’s Jerky.
Owner, Dan Baril, gets pretty jazzed about jerky.
“What they’re choosing between Hickory, traditional, Smokey flavor, some like it sweet, some like it really hot,” said Baril. “So, we try to make sure we have something for everyone.”
Here at Mister B’s Jerky in Southington Baril is crafting family recipes, one batch at a time.
“I make everything here fresh,” said Baril. “I can tell you when everything is made, within a couple of hours, sometimes it comes out the same day.”
And this business, is a family affair. From product development to quality control, everyone has a job.
“When I come I am a taste tester, for everything that comes out,” said Baril’s son, Jason.
“He is always trying to come up with something new,” said Baril’s daughter, Melissa. “His newest stick, barbecue, is my favorite right now, kind of like a SlimJim without the casing with better meat.
The business first opened up in 2016, and Mom, Christine, says it all began at home.
“Dan started making jerky out of our house,” said Melissa. “So, I was pretty happy when I open the store because everything in our house smells like jerky.
Today, the Baril’s welcome guests to their store Wednesday to Sunday on North Main Street.
“At least in the store I can get away from it,” said Christine. “The bad thing is that we don’t have any jerky in our house anymore, so if I want to have some jerky I have to come here to get it.”
The Baril’s offer nearly 20 varieties, and even have gluten free options.
“Make sure to get the free samples,” said Jason.
Dan says he’s also happy to help if you’re not sure where to start first.
“I try to ease their mind and give them a few of everything,” said Dan. “That way they can go home, and see what they like.”
If you can’t make it to the store you can also place your orders online.
