Card skimming device found in Groton Big Y

Customers who notice fraudulent charges on their accounts are asked to contact their banks directly.

GROTON, Connecticut — Customers of the Big Y store in Groton, Connecticut are being reminded to check their financial statements after store employees discovered a card skimming device. The discovery was made back on Sept. 17.

According to a Big Y spokesperson, there was only a single device connected to a single terminal in the store's checkout. The store is working with law enforcement to determine who may have placed the device.

As of Monday, Big Y leadership had not found evidence of customer information being compromised but promised to alert any customer whose information they find to have been stolen.

Customers who notice fraudulent charges on their accounts are asked to contact their banks directly. Questions or concerns about this incident can be directed to Big Y at (800) 828-2688 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

This is just the latest skimming device found in a Connecticut business in the last few months. Skimmers were also found at a Dollar General in Norwich last week and at the NSA Supermarket in New London in August.
