CONNECTICUT, USA — Connecticut's newly changed bottle deposit law will be of interest to avid recyclers.
The state's five-cent redemption value on bottles and cans will increase to 10 cents.
This will allow customers to double their return off of deposits that are incorporated into the costs of beverages.
Representative Joe Gresko of Stratford, co-chair of the Environment Committee said this law will help to alleviate waste.
"It benefits the environment by reducing the amount of litter because now you have a cash value for things that are normally discarded," said Gresko..
Originally, the bottle bill which started in 1980, only applied to several recyclable items, but that changed 14 years ago.
"When we first started, it was beer bottles, glass bottles, it was beer aluminum cans, it was soda, same thing aluminum and glass and then in 2009, we included plastic water bottles," added Gresko.
24 bottle redemption centers in Connecticut accept the most eligible items.
