CHESHIRE, Conn. — Stop & Shop customers across the state are going to social media citing bare shelves in several locations. The store's parent company is reporting a cybersecurity issue and it's impacting truck shipments.
The Cheshire Stop & Shop in the Maplecroft Plaza is one of several stores dealing with empty shelves.
"We walked in and one of the Stop & Shop employees said “good luck with your list,” said Martha Reina of Cheshire. “You could see all the empty spaces."
It’s unclear exactly what that issue is, but many customers are leaving with lists just as long as when they walked in.
“I think produce was the worst but even meat there’s less than there normally is,” said Reina.
Stop & Shop’s parent company, Ahold Delhaize, said it is working on fixing the cybersecurity issue. Its statement said in part “…this includes taking some systems offline to help protect them. This issue and subsequent mitigating actions have affected….services including a number of pharmacies and certain e-commerce operations.”
Stop & Shop stores will remain open, but customers are heading to other supermarkets to check off their lists.
“It seems like every time we go in the prices are higher and inventory is lower,” said Greg Beach from Cheshire.
“We will have to go somewhere else and we usually don’t have to do multiple stores,” said Reina.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, shoppers are hoping for a quick fix.
“Everything else we need to buy, all the produce all the vegetables you do for Thanksgiving,” said Reina.
FOX61 reached out to Stop & Shop for more information but are still waiting to hear back.
