BERLIN, Conn. — Eversource has submitted its proposed standard winter rate to Connecticut's Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA).
The utility company's proposed rate will be 14.71 cents per kilowatt hour, which is up from the current summer rate of 13.82 cents per kWh.
If PURA approves, the rate will be in effect from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2024.
For winter 2023, Eversource charged 24.2 cents per kWh. At the time, Eversource cited natural gas supply constraints due to "the war in Ukraine and other global pressures" for the price hike.
For winter 2022, Eversource's kWh rate was 11.5 cents.
Rates tend to fluctuate and drop for the summer months, according to trends seen in Eversource supply rates from 2018-2023.

Eversource is offering a new discount program to help customers save either 10% or 50% on energy bills. Enrollment opened earlier this fall and the program starts in December.
Eversource also encourages customers to take advantage and "take control" of their electric bill by comparing rates from third-party suppliers on EnergizeCT.com.
