Recalled Alaura Candle in Vanilla Biscotti Scent, in packaging

Nearly 140,000 candles in glass jars sold at Costco have been recalled because they can shatter or break apart, creating a cutting and fire hazard, federal regulators said Thursday. At least three people have been injured.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall involves the Alaura Brand Two-Tone Jar Candles. They were sold at Costco stores and at costco.com from August through September 2021 for $17.

Northern Lights Enterprises has received 138 reports of the jar candles shattering, cracking or breaking apart, CPSC said. There have been three reported cases of people being lacerated.

The two-tone candles come in a decorative glass container with a metal lid, CPSC said. They come in Frosted Forest and Vanilla Biscotti scents. “Alaura Candles” is printed on a sticker on the bottom.

Anyone who has these is encouraged to stop using them and return them to Costco for a full refund.

"Consumers who are not able to return the Candle to a Costco Warehouse can contact Northern Lights by email at cr@northernlightscandles.com for instructions on how to cut the candle wicks, provide verification of this to Northern Lights, and then dispose of the candle to receive a full refund," CPSC said.
