2 killed in crash on I-395 in Massachusetts, including Putnam Elementary School teacher

The Mass. State Police Sturbridge Barracks received a report around 10:17 p.m. Saturday of a wrong-way driver on I-395 southbound.

WEBSTER, Massachusetts — Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 395 Saturday evening, including a 4th-grade teacher at Putnam Elementary School in Connecticut according to Massachusetts State Police (MSP).

The MSP Sturbridge Barracks received a report around 10:17 p.m. of a wrong-way driver on I-395 southbound. Moments after, MSP said that the driver struck another car near exit 3 on the highway in Webster, Mass.

The drivers of both cars were killed in the crash. While their identities have not been officially released by police, the Putnam school district said one of the drivers, 35-year-old Kayla Morey, was a teacher at its elementary school.

MSP said that the driver of the car going the wrong way was a 31-year-old man from Auburn, Mass.

Morey was born in Worcester, Mass., and began working at Putnam Elementary School after earning a bachelor's degree at St. Micheal's College in 2010. She also earned a master's from St. Joseph's University in West Hartford.

Morey leaves behind a husband and three children; friends and family are invited to attend calling hours in her honor at Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. The times are Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a brief graveside service. Morey's family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory to the Worchester Animal Rescue League.
