Connecticut Foodshare begins 'Thanksgiving for All' campaign

The goal is 50,000 Turkey Day meals for families in need.

WALLINGFORD, Conn. — The calendar has turned to November once again, so at Connecticut Foodshare, ‘tis the season for turkeys.

While Thanksgiving is several weeks away, the holiday rush is on at Connecticut Foodshare’s Wallingford warehouse, where turkeys and all the sides are now being collected for Thanksgiving Day.

“It’s November and as soon as the calendar turns, I think we all start getting into Thanksgiving mode,” said Jason Jakubowski, the president and CEO of Connecticut Foodshare. He added, “Our theme (in 2024) is Thanksgiving for All.”

Jakubowski added that his team has lofty goals for the holiday ahead: “To collect and distribute 50,000 Thanksgiving meals. We have over 600 pantries across the state that work with different families and different areas across the state.”

Jennie Hirsch, the chief of staff at Foodshare, said, “This is a really busy time of year for us and it’s a really critical time both to get awareness out there in the community for what we are doing and what the need is -- but also to help people get a meal during the holidays.”

With boxes of frozen turkeys being forklifted in one aisle at the massive Foodshare warehouse, Jakubowski added his pitch for public support: “Our message is to be generous. It’s about the Thanksgiving meal and how do we help 50,000 residents have a good Thanksgiving meal.”
