HARTFORD, Conn. — AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service, ranks Connecticut as the seventh-highest state for formal volunteering in its latest Volunteering and Civic Life in America report.
Connecticut saw a significant increase in volunteerism, with 1,107,001 residents contributing over $3.1 billion in economic value.
Connecticut's formal volunteering rate surged by more than eight percentage points in just two years, with 37.4% of residents volunteering through organizations in 2023. Other notable statistics include 98.7% of residents connecting with family and friends, and 58.6% donating to charity.
"Connecticut represents the best of America," said AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith. "Their commitment to serving the community is truly inspiring."
The biennial survey, conducted in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, tracks trends in volunteering, civic behaviors and informal helping. Across the nation, formal volunteering increased by 22% in the last two years, underscoring a rise in community engagement.
Connecticut is among the top 10 states for formal volunteering, joining Utah, Vermont, and Minnesota in the rankings. For more details, click here.
