MANCHESTER, Connecticut — Students at CT State Manchester are lending their time and talents once again to the Empty Bowls Project.
Upstairs culinary students at CT State Manchester (Manchester Community College) were prepping to make soups for the Empty Bowls project, downstairs the ceramics students were making the actual artistic bowls.
“Empty Bowls starts with artists who donate their pottery and it’s this gorgeous pottery that we take and we have local restaurants that donate local made soups and we take that and we put it into the bowls and it’s the Empty Bowls Project," said Molly Devanney, the local co-chair of the Empty Bowls Project.
Devanney proudly noted that over the past 23 years of the Empty Bowls event, they have raised in the neighborhood of $400,000 for Connecticut Foodshare.
From students and faculty to sponsors and restaurants, she said, “It's just a whole culmination of everyone coming together as a community.”
Culinary student Richie Thibodeaux is back for his second year helping to make the Empty Bowls Project go.
"This brings everyone together and it helps to fight the fight against hunger,” Thibodeaux said. "Connecting to the community is what we are all about at Manchester Community College.”
The Empty Bowls Project happens on Saturday, October 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and $25 buys a bowl to fill up as many times as you want.
