'Veterans’ Photo Share' asks those who served to share their stories

Veterans Day was honored in Windsor through snapshots.

WINDSOR, Conn — To honor local servicemen and women from the town, the Windsor Historical Society and the Windsor Senior Center collaborated on an idea that took off.

Local veterans were part of a “Photo Share.” One by one, they showcased snapshots of their service and then added their rich stories to accompany the pictures.

“Our job at the Windsor Historical Society is to collect and preserve history, so we are very happy to work with the senior center to give the opportunity to our veterans to let them tell their own story by sharing the wonderful pictures they’ve shared through their service,” said Carrie Taylor, the Windsor Historical Society's executive director.

Frank Collins, an 81-year-old Air Force Veteran, took the podium and showed photos of his days in service. Collins served all over the world, including tours in Vietnam and in Desert Storm.

“It’s a chance to try and showcase that veterans are not idealists, we are just Americans, we are soldiers.” Collins said, and then added, “It’s nice to be able to get that message across.”

From every branch of service, several of Windsor’s veterans spoke about their old pictures during the 90-minute presentation.

“This is an opportunity to honor them and their families for their dedication and the service they provided to our community and to our country,” Taylor added.
