Trunk-or-treat events aim to give back to the Greater Hartford communities

The Urban League of Greater Hartford hosted its event on Friday, bringing families together for safe Halloween fun with help from several Hartford organizations.

BERLIN, Conn. — The scene is set for a spooky night with skeletons and witches all about. However, there’s nothing scary about these trunk-or-treats in Berlin.

"We feel that it’s important to have a safe community alternative to Halloween trick or treating," said Kyrinda Richardson, youth development manager for the Urban League of Greater Hartford.

The Urban League of Greater Hartford hosted its event on Friday, bringing families together for safe Halloween fun with some help from several Hartford organizations.

"We bring different types of partners who serve the community the community can see them all in one place," Richardson said.

For the kids, the best part of the day was the candy and getting to dress up.

In Berlin, longtime friends Craig Bukowski and Maurice Humphrey teamed up for another year of their own trunk or treat.

"Me being from Berlin, Craig from being Berlin, our biggest thing was hey we always want to make it about the kids," Humphrey said. "We’re all about community we’re all about giving back," he said.

They offered free rounds of mini golf, candy, and tons of fun.

"Having so much fun because I like mini golf," said Semelina Jenkins of Portland.

"That’s what we’re about. That’s why we opened this miniature golf course," Bukowski said. "Like my dad always said, miniature golf is an activity where you could be 85 years old, you could be 3 years old," Bukowski said.

With hundreds of kids attending their event each year the friends said they plan to continue giving back.

"This is our fourth year doing it and I don’t see us stopping any time soon," Humphrey said.
