Dennis 'DJ' Hernandez pleads guilty to threats targeting UConn

Court documents revealed the multiple Facebook posts and private messages that threatened he was planning a possible shooting at UConn.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The brother of Aaron Hernandez has pleaded guilty to charges connected to making multiple threatening statements regarding an alleged plan to commit a shooting at UConn.

Dennis "DJ" Hernandez, 38, of Bristol, pleaded guilty Wednesday.

Court documents revealed that Hernandez sent someone multiple statements over Facebook Messenger in July 2023, telling them to stay away from the UConn campus and that he's "died for years now and now it's other people (sic) turn."

Around the day he sent those messages, Hernandez's vehicle was found on UConn's campus.

A few weeks later in July 2023, he made Facebook posts targeting three people outside of Connecticut, including a state court judge. He also sent texts to one of the victims, saying in part "It's been years in planning just taking notes, names and locations...be prepared for a media circus one way or another."

Hernandez has been detained since July 19, 2023. Upon his arrest last summer, it was also alleged that Hernandez was targeting Brown University as well. His sentencing in this case is Feb. 6, 2025.

Hernandez is also facing charges related to a protective order from a former spouse and for throwing bricks at the ESPN campus in Bristol.

Hernandez played quarterback and wide receiver at UConn in the mid-2000s.

Aaron, Dennis Hernandez's brother and former NFL star, took his own life in 2017 while serving a murder sentence.
