HARTFORD, Conn. — A Torrington teen was arrested on New Year's Eve morning after allegedly driving the wrong way on the highway with a firearm and drugs in the car.
Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, state police responded to a report of a wrong-way driver on the Exit 50 off-ramp of Interstate 84 westbound.
Responding troopers found the car stopped on the ramp and facing the wrong direction.
The driver, identified as Alex Ortiz, 18, of Torrington, failed the field sobriety tests that state police administered, troopers said.
State police also found a firearm in plain sight on the back seat of the car, according to troopers. An investigation determined the firearm was stolen out of Middlebury, state police said.
During a search, state police said they also found narcotics in the car.
Ortiz was arrested and charged with DUI and driving the wrong way and also faced firearm and drug possession charges. He was released on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 22.
