Suspect of deadly East Haven hit-and-run in custody: Police

A white hatchback fled the scene on Main Street just before 10 p.m.

EAST HAVEN, Conn. — East Haven police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash just before 10 p.m. Friday. The suspect allegedly responsible is now in police custody.

The crash happened in the area of 650 Main Street. Main Street between Boston Avenue and Charter Oak was temporarily closed while the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit (SCCTU) investigated. The area has since reopened.

The offending vehicle fled the area and was later found at an apartment complex on Gerrish Avenue, police said. The driver was then taken into custody, police said.

Police urge anyone who lives in the area of 650 Main Street to check their cameras for the white hatchback traveling east on Main Street around 10 pm. Residents can call 203-468-3820 with any information relevant to the investigation.

No information on the age or identity of the victim has been released at this time.

This is a developing story.
