MANCHESTER, Conn. — The Massachusetts man who was accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death in East Hartford last week appeared in front of a judge Wednesday morning.
The judge raised his bond to $3.5 million.
Close friends and family members showed up in numbers and wore white and purple with a picture of Andra Valcinord, 51, of East Hartford on their shirts.
They left the courtroom visibly upset and asked for privacy as they headed to the funeral.
Last Sunday shortly before 7 a.m., East Hartford Police officers responded to Martin Circle to conduct a welfare check. That is when officers found Andra dead inside her home.
The arrest warrant stated a family member dropped off dogs when she discovered Andra in a pool of blood.
Detectives discovered blood-like stains in the bedroom, living room, and on her necklace which showed Andra tried to fight back, but was stabbed and slashed to death on her head and neck.
On Tuesday, Wilkid Valcinord, 57, of Chicopee, Mass. was arrested in connection to the homicide. He was Andra's estranged husband.
Dried blood was found on Wilkid's hands and parts of his white van throughout the investigation, according to the warrant.
During the hearing, the prosecutor revealed Wilkid was arrested in Massachusetts in 2006 for rape.
The arrest warrant went on to state a family member called Wilkid 'belligerent' every time he drank. He also owned his own carpentry business.
The judge not only raised his bond but ordered Wilkid to be on 24/7 lockdown and had to turn over any passports.
Wilkid is expected to reappear in court next month.
