GLASTONBURY, Conn — A former local police officer is accused of being a “serial burglar” who is accused of more than 30 burglaries in three states, a newly released arrest warrant showed.
The Connecticut Superior Court unsealed the arrest warrant against 37-year-old Patrick Hemingway on Friday that alleges he targeted safes and cash registers at multiple businesses in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts to steal money.
All the burglaries happened while Hemingway was an officer with the Glastonbury Police Department, the warrant alleges. He resigned from the police department on Sept. 1, 2023.
Investigators with the Wethersfield and Glastonbury police departments and state police are still working to determine the scope of the alleged burglaries. They said in the arrest warrant that the alleged burglaries occurred between February 2023 and June 2023.
According to the arrest warrant, investigators used cell phone data and surveillance videos to identify Hemingway as a suspect.
Investigators allege Hemingway wore a face mask and gloves and used lock-picking tools to break into the businesses. Another commonality in the burglaries was a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, which investigators determined was registered in his wife’s name.
The arrest warrant also alleges Hemingway logged into a police database at least 80 times over more than two years period to see if he was being investigated by other police departments.
Hemingway was arraigned at Manchester Superior Court in September on charges of computer crimes and making a false statement. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
As of Friday, Hemingway has not been charged for the alleged burglaries. He is due back in court on Nov. 15.
Hemingway was also a New Britain police officer from August 2009 to January 2019. He transferred to the Glastonbury Police Department in January 2019.
