HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford man is facing federal charges after making several violent threats toward the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, as well as threats toward members of Congress and other federal employees in the last year.

Aubrey Wayne Rose, Jr., 43, of Hartford, was arrested Thursday and was charged with making threats against federal officers. There were numerous occasions throughout the year in which Rose allegedly sent threatening emails or made threats at government facilities.

In March 2023, Rose sent threatening emails to the Defense Finance Accounting Service, as well as to four members of the U.S. Congress, according to court documents. In the email to the Congress members, he requested a formal appeal of his military pay and threatened to use a rifle if refused.

In May 2023, Rose sent another threatening email, this time including an employee of the Connecticut Superior Court, documents state. The email included a draft of another email he allegedly planned to send to a member of Congress, saying that as he continued to await a response, he decided "to force you [to] comply or be killed in the process."

In June 2023, Rose tried to get into the Connecticut office of a U.S. Congress member while wearing a tactical vest and what appeared to be two knives strapped to the back of it, court documents state. Office staff locked the office door before Rose got to it. He came back later that day and yelled into an intercom while standing outside the office, according to court documents.

In December 2023, Rose entered the VA facility in West Haven while wearing a tactical vest and carrying a bullhorn.

While there, he said, "Next time I come back, I'm bringing a weapon," according to court documents. He went to the FBI's New Haven office later that morning and said he would "go back to the VA with a firearm" if he did not get the assistance he was seeking.

Rose is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
