HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford man pleaded guilty in the city on Wednesday to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Kendall “KB” Camby, 34, was riding in a car when he was stopped by Hartford police on Feb. 22, 2023, according to court documents and statements. He possessed a .45 caliber Glock 30 handgun with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition, according to prosecutors. The weapon was fitted with a Glock switch auto sear device, which prosecutors said converted the gun to automatic.

Prosecutors also said that during the stop, Camby had around 650 wax paper sleeves containing fentanyl and approximately 50 bags of crack cocaine in his possession.

Previously, Camby was convicted for felony firearm, drug, robbery and burglary offenses, according to prosecutors. It violates federal law for a person who has been convicted of a felony offense to carry a gun or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Camby faces up to 15 years in prison for unlawful possession of a gun by a felon. Prosecutors said he is currently detained pending sentencing, which hasn’t been scheduled yet.

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Hartford Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hartford Police Department are investigating the case, according to prosecutors.

The prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which is a collaboration between all levels of law enforcement and the communities they operate in to reduce gun violence and other violent crime, making neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The project is based on three principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations that help stop violence from occurring and setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities and measuring the results, prosecutors said.
