'It could have been a murder scene' | Guilford man whose home was struck by bullets speaks out: Exclusive

The home, on New England Road, was hit by two bullets on Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. Nobody was hurt.

GUILFORD, Conn. — Guilford police detectives are working to solve what seems like a mystery after a home right across the street from Guilford High School was hit by bullets around 11:30 Tuesday night. Though the house was damaged, nobody was hurt.

“I found out where it came through, I said, ‘That’s right above the chair I sit in.’ So, anybody playing games or, they’re just fooling around, it could have been a murder scene,” said Ron Mcgrady, the homeowner.

Mcgrady just so happened to go to bed early last night. Otherwise, he may have been sitting in the chair right below where the bullet came through.

He said he did hear a noise Tuesday night, but thought it was fireworks and went to sleep. On Wednesday morning, he woke up to the damage inside and outside of his house.

“Put the light on and saw that window in the backdoor shattered. So, I went over and said, ‘something, obviously something was trying to get through’ and a saw a hole, I said, ‘oh this is a bullet hole,’” Mcgrady said.

At least two bullets hit his home. When he called the police around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mcgrady said they found four shell casings across the street.

“It does appear to be an isolated incident. And there was no active threat at the time,” said Chief Christopher Massey with the Guilford Police Department.

Chief Massey said they’re following up on leads and studying the surveillance video from Mcgrady’s home.

“It appears that the person or persons may have parked along the roadway or in the parking lot directly across the street from the home and discharged a firearm at the residence,” Massey said.

Right after the shooting, the car could be seen taking off, driving west.

Police are canvassing the area and asking neighbors who may have seen something to reach out to them. But at this time, they believe this was an isolated incident.

“Hopefully it’s random. A one-time, you know. It’s not going to happen again, hopefully,” Mcgrady said.

Police said they don’t believe the incident had anything to do with Guilford High School, though traffic was briefly interrupted during the investigation Wednesday morning. The district sent out a notification to parents ahead of time, and class continued as normal.
