Arrest made in Middletown shooting, police still investigating related incident

Police said the parties involved know each other and there's no direct threat to the public

Antwan Rufus arrested for Williams Street shooting on May 1

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Middletown police said they're investigating two shootings last week that were related. 

The first shooting happened on Wednesday, April 28 around 10:45 p.m. on Maplewood Terrace. Police said no person was hit by the gunfire. 

The second shooting happened on Saturday, May 1st around 6:45 p.m. on Williams Street.

A man was shot several times in the leg. He has not been identified at this time and his condition is unknown at this time. 

A suspect in the Williams Street shooting has been identified as Antwan Rufus. He was taken into custody Wednesday for his involvement.

Rufus faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Attempt at Assault First
  • Assault 2nd
  • Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Reckless Endangerment 1st
  • Commission of a Class A,B,C Felony with a Firearm

He was held on a $500,000 court set bond.

Police said the two shootings are believed to be related and there is no direct threat to the public. 

Investigations into both shootings remain active and ongoing.
