NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Federal Bureau of Investigations New Haven Field Division is sending agents to Maine to assist local and state police, who are hunting for a man suspected of killing at least 18 people Wednesday night.
“We have deployed New Haven Field Division FBI investigative personnel to Maine in support of their search efforts and any additional assistance that may be needed,” said Robert Fuller, the special agent in charge at New Haven FBI, in a written statement. “Our hearts go out to all the victims and their families in our neighboring New England community.”
It's not known how many agents are being deployed.
On Tuesday night and again on Wednesday, President Biden promised Maine's governor, Janet Mills, the federal government would step up to aid in the manhunt, the investigation and whatever state and local leaders need.
"I have directed my administration to provide everything that is needed to support the people of Maine," Biden said. "We will continue to be there every step of the way."
Police in Lewiston and surrounding towns are searching for 40-year-old Army Reservist Robert Card, who is suspected of killing at least 18 people and wounding dozens more at a bowling alley and restaurant Wednesday night.
