NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A New Haven man was sentenced to three decades in prison for the 2019 murder of a Hamden man during a drug deal gone bad.
Pharoh Jackson, 23, was sentenced to prison for murder on Monday for killing Corey Gomes, 35, during a robbery on Dec. 27, 2019.
According to previous reports, Gomes and a cousin pulled up into Xpress Fuel station on Dixwell Ave. to buy some rolling paper so they could smoke marijuana. The cousin had also arranged to sell marijuana to Jackson.
However, Jackson intended to rob the marijuana dealer at gunpoint, according to court documents.
A fight broke out between the two men and Jackson shot Gomes, who died at a nearby hospital from his injuries.
Hamden police were able to identify Jackson through social media. They also found back-and-forth texts about a proposed marijuana sale between Gomes’ cousin and Jackson.
Jackson, who was arrested in January 2020, pleaded guilty to felony murder on Sept. 18, 2023, in New Haven Superior Court.
