NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — A North Haven dad might be getting some extra gifts this Father's Day after he stopped a man who allegedly tried to steal his daughter's bicycle.
North Haven police say that on Wednesday officers responded to a home on Kimberly Circle for the report of a homeowner who had tackled and pinned down a burglary suspect.
Upon arrival, North Haven officers took custody of 38-year-old Stephen Morin of Waterbury. Police say witness statements and video surveillance revealed that Morin had entered the home's garage and taken a white and pink Huffy bicycle, belonging to the homeowner's daughter.
Morin was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Third Degree and Larceny in the Sixth Degree.
In a social media post, police said, "We want to remind everyone that confronting criminals comes with risk, and it is best practice to avoid confrontation if possible. We also remind would-be criminals that if you want to steal a kid’s bike days away from Father’s Day, you also are taking a risk (dad strength). We are thankful nobody was hurt, and the bicycle is back with its rightful owner."
