NORTHFORD, Conn. — A Northford man is out on bond Thursday night for the second time in a week after police said he killed his daughter’s two-year-old dog on Monday.
51-year-old Arnaldo Silva’s family member came to the North Branford Police Department Thursday afternoon to post his $15,000 bond. Silva was arrested a second time that morning in court for a violation of his initial release, involving animal abuse charges.
“I’m not gonna say nothing it was an accident. It was an accident that’s all it was,” Silva said.
Silva is facing charges of Cruelty to Animals and Threatening in the Second Degree.
When asked if there was anything Silva had to say about the charges against him, he responded, “Charges against me? What charges?”
North Branford police said they were called to Silva’s Woodvale Dr. home in Northford Monday night just before 11:30 pm. The call initially came in as a domestic dispute. On the way there, police learned about the alleged assault on his daughter’s two-year-old bulldog, Diesel.
“They entered the residence. They located a blood trail leading back to what ended up being the father’s bedroom,” said James Lovelace, Deputy Chief of the North Branford Police Department.
Police said they found Silva with cuts on his face, covered in blood. Then, Diesel was found dead. Police also found a bloody kitchen knife in his cage. They said they could tell Silva was under the influence.
When asked if he killed Diesel, Silva responded, “No, I tripped, I fell into my wall, I tripped over him he’s always around my feet. I drank too much, and I fell off.”
Silva posted his court-set $5,000 bond on Wednesday after the initial arrest, but that night, police got another call from his neighbors.
“We received another 911 call from the neighborhood. We responded, and then the officers applied for the arrest warrant,” Lovelace said.
Lovelace said the warrant issued in court Thursday morning was for a violation of his release, involving abusing substances.
Silva’s daughter said, “I just need justice for my poor baby boy.”
FOX61 asked if Silva had anything to say about his daughter and he responded, “She’s hurt.”
Silva is no stranger to police as they said they’ve responded to his home more than 20 times in recent years. He does have another court date set for Friday.
