NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police have arrested the man they believe is responsible for an armed robbery that took place at the Wells Fargo bank on Chapel Street on April 8, police said on Friday.
Perry Charnas, 39, was taken into custody Thursday without incident on an arrest warrant and charged with robbery and assault, police said.
At 9:07 a.m. on April 8, officers from the New Haven Police Department responded to the bank after receiving a robbery report, according to police, who said employees provided the details of the incident.
Police said that after a customer finished her transaction with the teller, a man wearing all black clothing, a mask, and gloves grabbed her, placed her in a headlock and pushed her back to the counter.
The male then took out a sharp object and held it to the woman’s neck, demanding money from the teller, according to police, who said the man then fled on foot and the victim was, thankfully, not harmed.
Police said detectives began immediately working to develop a suspect, who they later determined to be Charnas.
Charnas is being held on a $350,000 bond, police said.
