Putnam man arrested for DUI, aggressive driving, threatening drivers with paintball gun

THOMPSON, Conn. — A Putman man is facing charges for allegedly driving aggressively on Interstate 395 and threatening other drivers in the area with what appeared to be an assault rifle.

Connecticut State Police took multiple 911 calls around 6 p.m. Friday, which reported a red car driving aggressively on I-395 south in Thompson and Putnam. 911 callers reported seeing the driver pointing a firearm at other drivers.

More 911 calls reported that the driver of a red car was pointing what appeared to be an assault rifle at other drivers on Route 44 in Putnam.

Responding troopers and local Putnam police found the red car on Powhattan Street in Putnam and the driver, identified as Angelo Martinez, 24.

Troopers seized a black AR-style paintball gun from Martinez's car to process as evidence.

Martinez was taken into state police custody. He was charged with threatening, illegal possession of a weapon in a vehicle, DUI, and five counts of breach of peace.

He was held on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on Monday.
