Man's death ruled a homicide in Waterbury: Police

The incident happened on First Avenue early Friday morning and was upgraded to a homicide as of 2:30 p.m.

WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury police are investigating a homicide on First Avenue that occurred Friday morning. 

Waterbury police said that officers responded at 4:33 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive male on the ground in the area outside of 27 First Avenue. 

Officers found the man and he was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel.

On Dec. 26, police identified the victim as Jose Virola, 37, of Delaware.

Originally, the Virola's death was ruled as untimely, but as of 2:30 p.m., it was determined to be a homicide.

Additional information was not immediately available.
