Connecticut Education Association’s Communications Department earns national recognition

CEA Communications Director Nancy Andrews received the Bill Guy Award for Excellence in PR, distinguishing her as the PR practitioner of the year.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Connecticut Education Association’s Communications Department took home seven awards at a national conference in Philadelphia on June 23, which recognized the department’s excellence in communication.

According to a release from the CEA, the Communications Department was honored at the State Education Association Communicators’ annual conference. The CEA, the largest teachers’ union in Connecticut, was awarded in several categories, including special events, podcasts, publications, opinion/editorial writing and social media campaigns.

CEA Communications Director Nancy Andrews also received the Bill Guy Award for Excellence in Public Relations, distinguishing her as the PR practitioner of the year, the release said. Andrews, a resident of Wethersfield, has been with the CEA for 13 years and has been in her current position since 2016. According to the release, she is the first Connecticut recipient of the national title in 35 years.

CEA President Kate Dias said in the release that the group is extremely proud of the work it accomplishes and that none of it would be possible without the team of communications professionals.

“From large-scale social media outreach to grassroots organizing, Nancy and her staff are the force behind so many of our accomplishments on behalf of Connecticut’s dedicated public-school educators. To have their work judged as exemplary by their peers across the country is extremely gratifying,” Dias said, in the release.

Dias added that while members are in the classrooms doing the critical work of teaching and supporting students, “CEA is out there ensuring that their message resonates in their communities and that the teachers’ voices are amplified everywhere that decisions about education are being made.”

CEA earned the following SEAComm distinctions for 2024:

                -Award of Excellence for CEA’s 175th anniversary commemorative events

                -Award of Excellence for the education podcast “Two T’s in a Pod”

                -Award of Excellence for membership materials

                -Award of Excellence for opinion/editorial writing

                -Award of Distinction for the CEA Advisor periodical

                -Award of Distinction for “WEP/GPO Must Go” social media campaign

                -Bill Guy Award for Excellence in Public Relations
