HARTFORD, Conn. — Good news for students in Hartford: A new library is now open.
The Boundless Library is open at West Middle School for preschoolers through 5th graders, funded by a grant from The Hartford.
Construction for the library was done back in 2016, transforming the media center at the school, but it didn't see much use until now. The library hired a full-time library and it's now officially open for students and members of the community.
Boundless is a learning-focused partnership between Hartford Public Library and Hartford Public Schools. It's based on an emerging trend in several other cities nationwide where school districts and libraries come together to deepen learning opportunities for children and adults.
The goal of West Middle School's Boundless Library is to promote reading and other activities to improve academic achievement and help students develop a love for reading and learning.
Library officials said the partnership is an essential aspect of the city.
"This doesn’t happen very often," said Bridget Quinn, CEO of Hartford Public Libraries. "I don’t think there’s anywhere else in the country where the partnership with the public library and the schools is so robust and so collaborative."
Library and school officials look forward to watching this space be utilized in the curriculum for students.
