DANBURY, Conn. — Two campuses of a Connecticut state university are closed Friday after a water main break, officials said.
Marcia Firsick, director of communications at Western Connecticut State University, said the water main break happened on campus and not on Danbury city property or nearby streets.
The university announced it on social media, saying the break was in the Westside campus and as such, both the Westside and the main campuses were closed.
In a subsequent post, officials said the "major" water main break happened between the commuter lot and the Westside Classroom Building. Some of the classrooms in the building were impacted and will have to be relocated.
"If you have classes in the Westside Classroom Building, please be sure to check your email to see if your classroom is impacted, or contact your professors before class on Monday, January 22, to see if your class will be moved," officials said.
The university had planned to close early on Friday due to the ongoing weather conditions, however, the water main break happened before then.
Meteorologists are tracking some snow Friday, with most of the state potentially getting a coating of about 1 inch. After the storm moves out, the temperature will turn sharply colder with wind chips near or below zero by Saturday morning.
