NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is the latest star to take the trip to Wooster Street to enjoy some New Haven apizza.
Ramsay visited Frank Pepe's and Sally's, and shared on social media Monday about his experience.
"What an amazing pizza tour through New Haven at Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana & Sally's Apizza!" Ramsay said on his official Facebook page. "Lots of history and delicious pies!"
He shared pictures of the apizza pies and of the staff that greeted him.
Some users noticed the "char" on the crust, saying the pizza "looks burnt." Locals and apizza enthusiasts defended the char, one of the many features of a typical New Haven apizza.
"Anyone saying they're burnt clearly has not tried traditional New Haven Apizza, the best in the country," one user said.
Ramsay has been spending plenty of time in Connecticut this spring and early summer, as he wraps up taping seasons 23 and 24 of "Hell's Kitchen" at Foxwoods' restaurant of the same name. "Hell's Kitchen" is one of many food competition shows Ramsay hosts on FOX.
Ramsay also had a bike crash in the state earlier this month and shared online that he had some bruises and did not break any bones. He stressed the importance of wearing a helmet in a video update to his followers.
