Connecticut State Police K-9 Elmer passed away on July 6

Connecticut State Police K-9 Elmer and Det. David Collins worked together for three years before Elmer passed on July 6, 2024.

CONNECTICUT, USA — The Connecticut State Police sadly reported that K-9 Elmer #9046 passed away on Saturday due to medical complications.

Elmer was six years old and assigned to Det. David Collins #930. Together, the partners worked on the state police’s Fire & Explosion Unit, the release said.

Elmer and Collins graduated from the state police’s 212th Accelerant Detection Class in the fall of 2020. Elmer admirably served the state for the past three years, according to the release.

Over the course of his career, Elmer traveled all throughout Connecticut to assist at a variety of fire scenes, working alongside local, state and federal partners in locating countless evidentiary items, state police said.

Elmer also assisted in training fire investigators and educated the public about fire safety.

“K-9 Elmer was loved by all and will be sorely missed,” the state police release said.
